Why We Fight

In case you needed a reminder.

The next time this man says he supports peacekeeping and then out of the side of his mouth says he wants us out of Afghanistan, remember just who's playing politics with that little child's life.

-UPDATE-: Aaron Lee Wudrick dishes up NDP soufflé and points out Layton's moral waffling on our peacekeeping operations.

Your viewpoint is pretty simplistic.

We should debate whenever troops are deployed. You shouldn't fear people who want to debate combat deployments.

Your viewpoint is right on the money. Lefties always try to cloud the rationale for fighting because in their heart of hearts, they don't believe in fighting for anything but their own power.

We fight for freedom, justice, and a better future for all mankind.

"The torch be yours to hold it high if ye break faith with us who die..."

Jack Layton might think we should wait and fight the terrorists when they get here in Canada, but let's hope average Canadians realize it's better to send Soldiers to kill terrorists in their own countries.

Osama says we're on his hit list - but Al Qaeda hasn't managed to kill any Canadians in Canada yet, so our soldiers should keep hunting down and killing terrorists - it works.

If it appears simple, that's because the issue is simple. Why, only now are there calls to pull out of Afghanistan?

Simple. Because it is politically expedient for the NDP and the Liberals to do so.
Simple. Because they're hoping to make the Conservatives look bad.
Simple. Because all the evidence points to a morally bankrupt Canadian left.
Simple. Because the same people who sent the Canadian Forces into Afghanistan now want them out, before the country is stable.

I guess the lives of the millions of people in Afghanistan aren't worth much to the Liberals and the NDP.

I support the Afghan mission %100. I think we've got great soldiers, and they do great work.

I rely on our political leadership to communicate exactly what our mission is and build support for that just mission.

JDS... *you* are not fighting. That out of the way, do you know for 100% certain to save your life why there are Canadians over there in Afghanistan? If you say you do, it would be either an incredibly arrogant or ignorant remark.

Arrogant in the presumption that you know what is best for a civilization that has preceded yours by thousands of years. Ignorant, because most politicians do not understand what game it is they are immersed in.

History has always benefited from the scrutiny of "lefties" as you call them. Totalitarianism stands constantly ready to usurp your freedom. "Righties" make it so much easier for them!

It's okay. I was like you once. Then, I fought.

"gritpatriot" said it... our viewpoints are extremely idealistic and simplistic. We, of course, are the progeny of rhetoric supreme, and we deviate from popular opinion only at our peril.

However, for an increasing number, rhetoric is no longer the hallowed thing it once was, due to the historical evidence of corruption in internationalism, and the constant procession of debacles that, for me, started with Vietnam.

All of the major conflicts today are suspect. Someone once said the Internet was lawless. It is also the only true source of independent journalism available. The truth is out there, but *only* the most diligent and determined individual can ever hope to weave through the maze of deception that has been allowed to spread throughout society.

I've spent the better part of thirty years sorting it all out, and I'm only scratching the surface... but enough to know I'm on the right track.

Question everything... take nothing for granted!

When it all comes down to it, "We sleep safe in our beds at night because rough men stand at the ready to visit violence upon those who would otherwise intend us harm."

That includes those in Afghanistan, who deserve peace as much as we do. Running away from the responsibility that our government (by the will of Canadians) committed to because we suffer a few casualties is selfish and irresponsible. But don't take my word for it. Ask Rick Hillier.

By Blogger Danté, at 9:58 PM

No... Dante... I sleep soundly in my bed because of Smith & Wesson, not a government that refuses to allow me the dignity of defending myself by prosecuting me if I try! Not even the local cops can protect me, let alone the CF! No, I'm on my own, there... and so are you. And if the hordes do invade, your military will be overseas, and all there will be here is a bunch of foreign nationals who won't give a rat's ass if you live or die. Ever notice all the foreign troops training in North America?

All due respect to Mr. Hillier... and my father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, various uncles, many friends... myself... all former soldiers, some of whom paid the ultimate price.

By the way, we fight because rich men would have it so. It fits their agenda for acquiring wealth and power. If you happen to realize any benefit from it, that is inconsequential to them. I didn't "run away," but it doesn't change the facts. I can't blame you for your doubting, you won't learn true history in elitist-run public schools or universities. And where else are you going to turn for the truth?

I know what the media says, and I see the ragged beggars holding pitiful little urchins in their arms, smiling at their glorious liberators in camo, and praising Allah for sending them. I see the other side, too. A picture you might see in some Canadian and American cities where people live in squalor, forgotten by society in general, victimized by the rich and powerful... now, ask yourself what business does a government have trying to "solve" another nation's problems when it hasn't gotten it's own act together? And where do we get off telling them what their women have to wear, or what system of government they should adopt?

You're basing everything on mainline media intelligence. Here's a flash for you... people LIE! And if people can lie, so can their elected leaders. I guess our last government's antics escaped your attention. Scandals that happened decades ago are just coming to light.

One example; since you get off on the military, look at the US. Government's nuclear tests done on their own servicemen over the years. What about those experiments in the forties with hallucinogenic drugs like LSD -- initially done on military test subjects. Of course, to the uninformed public, a uniform spells respect and honor, ( I know! ) but in those cases, it spelled 'guinea pig' and 'cannon-fodder.'

I'm thinking you're pretty young, and haven't yet seen what an oligarchy of rich and powerful government-controlling fascists are capable of. It's not as apparent here as in other countries, but it's coming, and it started there the same way... with seemingly benign and innocuous deceptions that increasingly gave way to open totalitarianism. It's not like they haven't been trying here, but you can thank God for the peace you have... so far... and, of course, those proverbial 'mutts' dragging at the proverbial thief's pant leg, the "lefties," whose dogged ( no pun ) vigilance has helped keep the elitists at bay.

You've heard that old saying: "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance?" It was coined as a warning against our own leaders! Works both ways!

I've really got to stop turning the comment section into a message board.
